Beautiful Barman of the Month April

Michael in his Mykonos days!

By popular demand... seriously! Michael from the very lovely Refuel Cafe/Bar, has been selected from thousands of hopefuls, to take this months spot as Beautiful Barman of the month!
So, i caught up with michael earlier in the week at his place of work to have a quick chat. We took our place on his very large and comfortable terrace, with a large iced coffee, and nattered the afternoon away whilst the sun set behind La Cala.

Right Michael lets get started. For those who aren’t familiar with you are you life, what are your origins?

Well i grew up in Prestwich, Manchester ... the posh part!

Why am i not surprised! So what sort of careers/jobs have you had over the years?

I think the best job i have ever had, and still miss it to this day, is when i live/worked in Mykonos, Greece. I sort of ended up staying there after taking a vacation with friends. I worked for Thomson Holidays for around 6 years all in all. Loved every minute of it!

Sounds like paradise! After Greece, what did you do?

I joined British Airways, and became a member of cabin crew. I flew with them round the world  for 15 years and worked my way up to become senior cabin crew!

Interesting. What about your love life?

I have been with my partner Jonathan for 13 years now, he always had high-powered, ‘rat-race’ style jobs so we decided to pack up and ship out to spain, thats how we came to buy Refuel. Now i work even bloody harder!

I know how you feel, so much for the easy life eh? Do you live in Benidorm?

No. Jonathan and i reside in Altea, just up the coast from Benidorm. Its so peaceful and secluded. We have a beautiful Villa in Altea Hills, its bliss.

Ok, lets do the quick-fire round.
Favourite drink?

Crystal Champagne .... naturally!

Yum, best bar... anywhere in the world?

Shadow Lounge, SOHO, London. And Peppermint in Spain!

Favourite saying or quotation?

“My hoop is like a sugared donut”

Favourite food?

Definitely Thai food.

Favourite celebrity?

David Beckham ... oh yeah!

Very nice, thank-you! Sticking with the subject of celebrities, have you met or do you know any?

Actually, i do have a few A-list buddies. I have known Amanda Holden, for years now. We met years ago before all her starring roles, and of course, Britain’s Got Talent, we still stay in touch which is nice!
Also i used to be Heather Mills personal trainer when i was about 32 years old!

Wow, thats pretty impressive! So any embarrassing moments you want to share with us?

Oh god, yeah i have  a great one! Years ago i was flying The Spice Girls back from Singapore, first class of course. I got talking to them and tried to convince them to play a gig at Gay Pride in London. I think they were just humoring me because they said yes!
Anyway, i went to Pride and to my amazement, on came the Spice Girls.
I dragged all my mate round the back of the stage, bragging about how i convince them to play there, and that Emma Bunton was my best mate. Only to find out from the security guard that they were a flipping Drag Act!!

OMG, that is hilarious, i would have died! So where are we likely to find you on a night out in Benidorm?

I normally only go out at the weekends, obviously because i have to work in the mornings. But my regulars haunts have to be Company Bar, Men Only, Chaplins and my favourite bar has to be Peppermint.
